John Charles, born 1799 to Irish Immigrants, bought 89 acres in Richland County, where he eventually bought a mill.
In 1854 the present mill was built by Daniel Coffman. Contained two run of stone, and rings about two thousand bushels of wheat in a year. The first mill was a log structure, built by John Hershey (destroyed by fire, rebuilt in 1854, In 1859 was purchased by its present owner, John Charles, and is known as Charles Mill (Richland Source, Sept. 4, 2018).
